Broward College defines an internship as any short-term, faculty-led, supervised work experience specifically related to a student’s declared major, for which a student earns academic credits. The internship should provide the student with a meaningful experience directly related to specific learning outcomes in his/her course of study. The Faculty Internship Advisor ultimately approves the suitability of the internship for course credit.

Employers should post internship opportunities 60 days prior to internship course registration deadline:

Note: Students are required to complete 144 working hours per term for a (3) credit course .

  1. Register at http://www.broward.edu/ccn.
  2. Once your organization has been approved you will have access to post your internship opportunity.
    • Select the “internship” option in the “Type of Job” area.
  3. Upload a detailed internship job description.
  4. Proceed with normal hiring practices.
  5. Present an offer letter with detailed internship job duties on company letterhead to the BC student.

Once a Broward College student is chosen to work with your company/institution as an intern the workplace site supervisor is responsible for the following:

  • Sign the Broward College Internship Agreement.
  • Review, discuss and sign off on the student’s measureable learning objectives.
  • Develop a work schedule that does not interfere with student’s college coursework.
  • Provide work duties/assignments/tasks relevant to the student’s learning objectives.
  • Serve as mentor and advise student.
  • Notify Internship Faculty Advisor of any change in the student’s employment status.
  • Review and sign off on the student’s Internship Log.
  • Complete the Employer Internship Evaluation at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Discuss the student’s progress with the Faculty Internship Advisor.

Hire Interns at BC

Can students participate in an internship here at Broward College? Absolutely! Students have completed internships with Economic Development, Public Relations, and Grants Development. Offering BC students an internship opportunity within your department provides convenience and flexibility for our students. Here’s how you can participate:

  1. If a BC student has been identified, the departmental supervisor simply provides the student with an offer letter which includes a detailed description of the internship duties and responsibilities on BC letterhead.
  2. The student signs up for a mandatory internship orientation session and presents his/her offer letter to a career center coordinator.
    • Internship orientation dates are posted at www.broward.edu/ccn.
    • The career center coordinator contacts the Internship EDGE office to register the student for the course and assign a faculty internship advisor.
    • The faculty internship advisor works with the student and the departmental supervisor to ensure the student is learning and completing tasks related to their career goals throughout the internship experience.

  1. If a BC student has not been identified, the departmental supervisor registers as an employer on the College’s online job board, www.browa​rd.edu/ccn, and uploads a detailed job description with internship duties and responsibilities.
  2. The Internship EDGE office promotes the internship opportunity to students. Please note: internship placements are not guaranteed.
  3. Interested students contact the department to set up an interview with the supervisor.
  4. If the student is chosen for the internship opportunity, the departmental supervisor provides the student with an offer letter which includes a detailed description of the internship duties and responsibilities on BC letterhead.
